I am thinking of getting a Blackberry Curve 8330. Possibly about 45 minutes from now.

Discuss.

So I'm waiting for the elevator in the lobby of my building, rocking out to my tunes, when I become aware of a dull roar beside me. I pull out one earbud.

"DID YOU KNOW THAT I ASKED YOU A QUESTION?!?!?" screams the dude beside me. He is a pretty typical example of your middle-aged, middle-class, super-sized white guy. Super tall, super bulky.

"How can I help you?" I ask pleasantly. After all, I'm in a pretty good mood about my upcoming trip.

I get on the elevator and he follows me on. I push the button for my floor. He pushes no button.

"Did you know that lady you let into the building?" He leans on the word 'lady,' making it a euphemism.

"No." I hadn't exactly 'let' the girl into the building, either--she was walking behind me, rifling through her purse, and she rushed up and grabbed the door as it was swinging shut.

"Then why did you let her in?"

"I didn't."

"You shouldn't let someone in if you don't know them." He's advancing on me, a bit menacingly, and I'm reminded of a similar situation a few years ago at Jamie's building, where I was physically assaulted by a guy for holding the door open for a different guy carrying a bicycle.

"What floor would you like?" I ask.

"I said--"

I lose it. "Hey, buddy, I don't know if you noticed, but I'm quite small, and you're a big guy. I wasn't about to get into a physical fight over this. If you're so hung up on this, why didn't YOU stop her from coming into the building?"

Silence.

The elevator stops on my floor.

"Which floor did you want?" I repeat. He doesn't say anything.

I push the button for ground.

"What are you doing?" he asks.

"I don't feel safe," I tell him. "I'm afraid you're going to follow me to my apartment. You scare me a lot more than some girl who can't find her keys."

He has the decency to look embarrassed.

"I have a cell phone," I add.

He gets off the elevator on the ground floor without a word.
