I just concocted this with stuff leftover in my kitchen, and seriously, it's so good you won't even need syrup. (Although I did have a small dollop just on principle.)

French Toast For One
(Two slices)

1 egg
1/3 cup milk
2 Tbsp brown sugar
dash of cinnamon
splash each of vanilla and dark rum
tiny pinch of salt

Mix this all up into a batter. Soak the bread in it, then fry in a skillet in butter until the outsides are golden brown. Then put in a 200-degree oven for a few minutes. Then eat! I had mine alongside a few slices of bacon.

You might want to leave out the rum if you're making it for the kids, or bake the toast a bit longer to cook it all off. It's not super strong but I definitely have a bit of a buzz on. ;)

That looks faboo! I had french toast and bacon today too, though sadly rumless. ("Sadly rumless" sounded in my mind like all two-word phrases starting with "sadly" - like Beaker was saying it.)

How do you make your bacon? I've taken to baking mine and will never go back to frying.

I fry it a little bit so that the edges are crispy and then I put it in the oven to finish--pretty much exactly as I did with the French toast. But maybe I will try straight-up baking next time.
