I really hate it when

a supervisor's way of asking you to do something is to stare philosophically at the object upon which the action is to be performed, and then say, "[Blank] really has to happen."

That approach doesn't really register with me when I'm occupied with something. It didn't work for my mother when I was five, and it isn't going to work now.
