Things I would like to do before my trip:
(This is mostly for my own benefit, but you can comment if you want to say "Karnak!" or talk about the weather or whatever.)
- get my hair cut. It's way too long and it's annoying the hell out of me. Suggestions of short, cool styles are welcome, keeping in mind that I like my hair to defy gravity whenever possible. Also, I'm not making big colour changes right now, as I am still recovering from the shock of The Pink. I'm going for a toned-down sandy blonde this time.
- get new glasses. More accurately, new lenses--I love the frames I have now, and they are still in good condition. I need to have an eye exam but I don't know when I'll have time to schedule one, so I was thinking of just doing a walk-in at Lenscrafters in Polo Park, since they have a deal with the optometrist next door. Has anyone actually done this? Is the wait long? Does the optometrist work weekends? I especially want to do this so I can have prescription sunglasses for the trip.
- schedule my leave. The automatic leave system doesn't cover leave without pay (which is what I am taking because I don't have enough vacation time) so I have to schedule it on paper and have it stamped, filed, etc. I keep forgetting to do this, and it's good to have a reminder.
- buy t-shirts. It's going to be warm on the cruise and in Aswan, but colder in Cairo. I plan on bringing jeans, a sarong and some drawstring pants. White t-shirts would be ideal, particularly since the guide book suggests that wearing sleeveless shirts draws unwanted male attention. The majority of my current selection of t-shirts have saucy sayings printed on them, so I am going to see about getting some plain ones.
- get a battery pack for my iPod. Suggestions welcome. I was thinking of this one, which runs on AA batteries and thus doesn't need to be charged.
- get a memory card for my camera. I have to go to the Sony store for this, so I will probably do it the same day as the Lenscrafters/t-shirt mall expedition.
Egypt!!

Date: 2006-02-01 04:10 pm (UTC)apparently my bf's brother did this while in europe and found it highly successful. He told me all the details of how to do it, which I have forgotten since but would be happy to obtain again should you need it.
