Well, it's been a long, lonely while since I updated, so I suppose I'll do that now. Let's see.

Saturday I went to a party at a friend's house out in the country. A small party, the kind where the conversation is communal and flowing and no one has to yell. A big thunderstorm erupted and everyone dashed inside except me and Jacob. We both like storms, so we stayed out in the middle of the field, held onto one another, watched the lightning, and got soaked to the skin. Stayed over at his place after the party, and finally got a good night's sleep, thanks to the arrival of a sorely-needed new mattress. We had all the windows open, the cool air and the sound of the rain making me feel all cosy and snug. Mmmmmmm.

Sunday we were supposed to go to this walk-a-thon thing, but my directionally impaired boyfriend misinterpreted the directions we were given. It wasn't his fault, really; he was told that we had to go to the intersection of a certain two streets; the problem is, is a crescent, so they intersect at two points, halfway across town from each other. No doubt you can guess the rest. Eventually we gave it up and went to the movies instead. Saw The Shape of Things, which I had wanted to see for some time. (J. just went along with my choice because I was a bit pissy after wandering around Academy Road for an hour in the midday heat.) It was interesting, and of course Rachel Weisz was excellent as always. You could certainly tell the dialogue was that of a play, though--that, and there were only four people who ever spoke throughout the entire film.

Monday was my cousin's high school graduation. My former teachers are all disturbingly old. Some had retired, and one had passed on. I wish I hadn't had to know about that. Teachers--the good ones--should always be immortal, somehow, always there looking over your shoulder while you write, like an academic conscience.

I was in a mood Monday night, but Jacob was wonderful--he bought me the new Harry Potter, which I am going to resume reading as soon as this entry is finished. We went to dinner, and when I complained that I was too tired to walk to the ice cream place we'd planned to go to, he took me back to his apartment and then went out on his bike and brought the ice cream back.

Sometimes I really, really love that boy.

And now I've got to dash, I need to figure out how I'm supposed to get to this birthday dinner for a friend of mine. Friday I'm going to Shakespeare in the Ruins with a different set of friends; Sunday it's the Grand Rock Festival with yet another set; Tuesday, dinner with the girls from work... Sigh. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be popular.
