Dear Livejournals,

chavvah is thinking of knitting me for herself sometime this year. I think this is a very good idea.

Sincerely,
really cute sweater

Dear really cute sweater,

You are knitted in a really expensive yarn. It would probably make more sense (cents) to buy a slightly less cute sweater than to buy all that swanky yarn.

With much love,
chavvah

Dear chavvah,

You know you want me.

Sexily yours,
really cute sweater

Dear really cute sweater,

Maybe I could use this yarn instead?

I really do want to knit and wear you.

Hopefully,
chavvah

chavvah,

That is obviously inferior, itchful yarn. What is the matter with you? Clearly, you do not deserve me.

Sincerely,
really cute sweater that you will never, ever wear

I was also thinking of making this sweater...as I believe we prevously discussed.

I saw a knit-a-long on craftster in which someone suggested using Patons Decor yarn as a substitute...it is part (mostly) acrylic and part wool...it would be cheaper and less itchy (plus it is on sale at lewiscraft right now). I was not sure if it would work...

cashmerino is really beautiful and soft.

Maybe they'd give us a discount if we bought all our yarn at once...

I like Patons Decor. I was actually just looking at it online.

You know, I looked at a lot of reviews of cashmerino and apparently it gets major sweater pills after one or two washes. I'm not so hot on the sweater pills.

You and I should do our own knitalong (although mine is going to take longer because it's a larger size).

I would recommend going to Ram wools with a copy of the pattern, the staff there has been extremely helpful in the past when I wanted to make substitutions in patterns, they will do all the math in terms of gauge, how many balls you'll need and look for similar colours, while simulatiously making sure that it is in your price range. Some of the employees also have a ridiculous memory for what is in the sale bins and also will clue you in on upcoming sales if no comperable substitutions are available. It's a fair hike out there, but it's completely worth it. I would also recommend against the Patrons Decor, I made a sweater out of it (unadvised) and it wound up being too stiff and heavy to ever wear, it's still in my closet because it looks beautiful (with embrodery and bobbles and EVERYTHING) but it is completely unwearable.

Oh, that is so, so sad. Unwearable sweater. I may cry.

It is sad because it turned out so cute. It's from Vintage Knits http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0743224566/ref=sib_dp_pt/102-9937381-1336108#reader-page
and was the most adorable cardigan, with bobbles and embroidery and I made it out of cream Patrons, with green and pink embroidered flowers and every time I see it in the closet I think, "Oh, I should wear that it is so cute and retro" and then I put it on and it's like woolen armour, stiff and immobile, I was so deluded while I was making it I kept thinking, "It just seems stiff because you're working on it" and "It will soften up once it's been blocked and washed" which it didn't.
And yet, I can't get rid of it, all those hours of work, the pain in the ass bobbles which are so cute. It's tragic truly tragic, that is when I swore off Patrons Decor for ever (not however their mereno wool which is wondeful and felts beautifully).

I think we should definately head to ram wools...to begin our own knit-a-long. What are you doing Saturday?

Unwearable sweaters are sooo sad and Tubey is too nice to make in unwearable yarn.
